What are the camp hours?
The regular camp day goes from 9 to 3 for Summerkids and Summer Challenge, and from 8:30 to 3:30 for SK-PreK (in order to accommodate camper naps and rest time).
We do offer extended day for families who need additional hours. Our extended day program is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Afternoon extended day is flexible and allows parents to enroll for one to five days a week. About half of our campers participate in one of our extended day programs.
How do you handle drop off and pickup?
We allow a half hour window for regular drop-off and pick-up--so for Summerkids and Summer Challenge, drop-off is from 8:30 to 9 and pickup from 3 to 3:30. For SK-PreK, or families with a child in SK-PreK and another program, drop-off is from 8 to 8:30 and pickup from 3:30 to 4.
We ask that a parent or caregiver come to the main gate to drop off their camper and pick him or her up at the end of the day.
We discourage early pickup from camp, as we find that it is disruptive to your camper’s overall experience. If you are going to be picking your child up early--or delivering your camper to camp late--please call the camp site at (626) 398-1426 to arrange for your child to be in the right place at the right time.
How do you celebrate birthdays?
Having your birthday during camp is fun! We keep a running list of all campers celebrating their birthdays during our sessions. A camper with a birthday during camp gets a special “birthday button,” and the counselors and campers will sing happy birthday at campfire. They often get to choose activities first that day, too. If a camper is absent from camp on his or her birthday, we celebrate with him or her on the next possible day.
Because of the nature of our program, we do not allow parents to bring birthday treats to share with other campers.
Do you offer transportation?
No. We believe that our counselors are at their best when they are being counselors, not driving your children around in a bus or van.
We do encourage carpooling to camp, and before camp starts, we will send you a list of other camp families living in your area.
Is your property fenced?
Yes! Camp families use one main entrance and exit to camp, near our lodge. Any visitor to camp must be buzzed in at that gate.
Where do you go hiking? Our 57-acre property is crisscrossed with trails of various levels of difficulty. Hikes are age-appropriate. Read more about our hiking procedures here.
What about the swimming pool?
Our gated pool is equipped with the latest safety equipment. A lifeguard counselor sits in the lifeguard chair at all times when campers are in the pool. Other lifeguards are on duty on the sides of the pool and in the pool itself.
You can read more about our pool and swimming procedures here. Please note that only SK-PreKers receive formal swim instruction, but we do work with older campers to strengthen their swimming skills.
My child may have a problem choosing activities. What do you do to help him/her?
We find that campers make choices based on all sorts of variables--the activity itself, the counselor doing it, what other friends are doing, or even where it’s happening on our campground.
At the end of each campfire, as campers choose their activities, we ask any camper who can’t make up his or her mind about which activity to do to check in with a director or the head counselor. We then help the camper make a choice, in a way that is age-appropriate. For younger campers, we will limit the number of choices or suggest a couple of options. For older campers, it’s usually a matter of repeating the choices. For some new campers, it may take a few periods of making choices this way before they “get” it.
My child’s school starts/ends on a different date than your sessions. What do I do?
Please call our office at 626.577.9979 and speak with Jaimi to discuss your options. We will do everything we can to work with you and your child's school schedule.
What is your refund policy?
With each application for camp, we collect a $400 deposit. If you need to withdraw your camper from any of our programs, and do so before May 15th, you will be refunded your deposit (less a $50 processing fee). After that date, your deposit is nonrefundable. If you cancel after the start of camp, you forfeit your entire tuition.
If you need to make a change in your schedule once we have processed your application, there is a $50 change fee. Please be aware that we cannot always accommodate schedule changes because sessions may be full and/or waitlist only.
Do you credit for days missed when a child is out ill?
Please note that we do not offer refunds or make-ups for days that a child is sick or absent.
What if we are on vacation?
If your camper is enrolled in camp for eight or more weeks, we offer a vacation option that allows you to either receive a refund (less an administrative fee) or reschedule some dates, for up to an equivalent week of camp. You must let us know before June 1 in order to take advantage of the vacation option, by filling out the form that is available on our “Forms” page (under Enrollment).
Do you take credit cards?
We do not. Please call the office if you need to arrange a payment schedule.
My summer schedule doesn’t match what you offer. What can I do?
Please keep in mind that if you are signing up for more than eight weeks, you may qualify for a vacation makeup or refund, which often can help you form a schedule that works.
Otherwise, please call us in the office and we will try our best to help you put together a schedule that works.
Do you do drop ins or tryouts? Can my child bring a friend for a day?
Sorry! We find that a camper who just drops in to camp for a single day often does not “get” all of the rich programming that we have to offer. In addition, our summer sessions are usually full by the time that camp starts.
Welcome to a place where the #1 rule is to "Have Fun."
