CAMP HOURS (SK-PreK)

We are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday.

In order to facilitate pick-up and drop-off and to allow for nap/rest time for the SK-PreKers, their  camp day will begin at 8:30 and go until 3:30.

Campers in SK-PreK may be dropped off any time between 8 and 8:30 and picked up between 3:30 and 4, unless they are staying for extended day.

For parents with children in multiple programs, we ask that all SK-PreK children and their siblings arrive no later than 8:30 and are picked up between 3:30 and 4. There is no charge for that extra care.

Times outside these hours are designated “extended day” and must be reserved with your camp enrollment.

See our forms for extended day choices and fees.

SK-PreK is open to children who have turned 3 before their camp session begins and are not entering a kindergarten program in the fall of 2012. (Those who are entering kindergarten in September are eligible for our Summerkids program.) All SK-PreK campers must be potty trained at the time of their application to camp.

The SK-PreK program is both complimentary of our K-6 Summerkids program and tailored to the needs of active 3- and 4-year-olds. Campers come together several times a day for their version of the campfire we do at Summerkids--a time to sing songs, play games and enjoy the company of fellow campers and counselors.

Activities include games, sports, hiking, crafts, gardening, nature, cooking and more--all tailored to be age- and developmentally-appropriate. As in Summerkids, campers make choices about what activities to do during a day--but PreK choices are more limited than they are in Summerkids.

In addition, we provide campers two nutritious snacks a day, a set-aside nap/rest time and, in order to get them water safe, formal swimming instruction. Every Friday, we hold what we call “sibling lunch”--when SK-PreKers can eat lunch together with brothers, sisters and friends who are in the Summerkids program.

Our SK-PreK program is run out of a dedicated area on our 57-acre property that includes four picturesque cabins, which have air conditioning and are equipped with rugs, tables, and cots designed for younger children. Campers have designated cubby spaces in the cabins for swimsuits, backpacks and lunches.

The SK-PreK outdoor space has a mix of creative, age-appropriate play equipment that takes advantage of our beautiful natural setting.

SK-PreK has its own committed staff of counselors, all of whom have both an interest and a skill in working with SK-PreK-age campers and have been well trained by us.  Kristin Quiros, who runs Walden’s Pre-K “Village” program during the school year, is the head counselor of SK-PreK. She has a wealth of experience and talent working with 3- and 4-year-olds and a strong sense of fun. She is a graduate of Pacific Oaks College and has worked as a teacher and lead instructor in several preschool and kindergarten settings.

If you have specific questions about SK-PreK, always, don't hesitate to call or email us.
