Our Junior Counselor in Training program is for campers entering 10th-12th grades, who have attended our programs for two or more years. The program provides young people with leadership training and prepares them to (hopefully!!) eventually become Summerkids counselors. Under the guidance of the Directors and Assistant Director, the JCs, as they are called, are given responsibilities around camp and provided important training in leadership and decision-making.
JCs participate in training before the camp season begins, learning about the Summerkids philosophy, camp leadership and how to act as positive role models. Once camp starts, they meet regularly with the management team both individually and as a group.
To participate in the program, potential Junior Counselors in Training must complete an enrollment form, be interviewed by camp staff and be selected from among the pool of applicants. Candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for a minimum of six consecutive weeks during a summer.
We have a limited number of openings in our Junior Counselor program each summer.
